Hydro Jetting
Thorough Drain and Sewer Line Cleaning
Grease, sludge, mineral deposits, roots, and other materials can build up along the inside of a drain or sewer line. Standard drain-cleaning equipment may open a path through the obstruction, but it may not remove extensive buildup from the pipe walls.
Hydro jetting uses controlled, high-pressure water to clean the interior of suitable drain and sewer lines. Felger Hart Residential provides residential hydro jetting throughout Fort Wayne, Bluffton, Wells County, Allen County, and surrounding Northeast Indiana communities.
What Is Hydro Jetting?
Hydro jetting uses specialized equipment to direct pressurized water through a drain or sewer line. Different nozzles and pressure settings allow the equipment to break apart obstructions and flush loosened material through the plumbing system.
Hydro jetting may remove:
- Grease and food residue
- Soap and organic buildup
- Sludge and sediment
- Mineral deposits and scale
- Small roots entering through pipe connections
- Material left behind by recurring blockages
Because every pipe is different, our plumbers evaluate the line before determining whether hydro jetting is appropriate.
When Should You Consider Hydro Jetting?
Hydro jetting may be recommended when:
- Drain or sewer clogs return repeatedly
- Several fixtures drain slowly
- A cable machine has not removed the underlying buildup
- Grease or sludge has accumulated inside the line
- Roots are restricting wastewater flow
- The sewer line needs a more thorough cleaning
- A camera inspection reveals buildup along the pipe walls
Not every clog requires hydro jetting. A localized blockage in a sink, tub, or toilet may be better handled with standard drain-cleaning equipment.
What to Expect During Hydro Jetting
1. Evaluate the Drainage Problem
Our plumbers determine which fixtures are affected and whether the symptoms indicate an individual drain clog or a main sewer-line obstruction.
2. Inspect the Sewer Line
A sewer camera may be used to locate the blockage and look for visible cracks, separated connections, corrosion, or other damage. This inspection helps determine whether the pipe is suitable for high-pressure cleaning.
3. Access the Line
When an accessible sewer cleanout is available, the hydro jetting hose is inserted into the line through that opening.
4. Clean the Pipe
Pressurized water is directed through the sewer line to break apart obstructions and flush grease, sludge, roots, and other loosened material from the pipe.
5. Confirm the Results
After cleaning, our plumbers may inspect the line again to confirm that the obstruction has been removed and determine whether any visible damage requires additional attention.
Is Hydro Jetting Safe for Every Pipe?
Hydro jetting should only be performed after considering the pipe’s age, material, and structural condition. A weakened, collapsed, or severely deteriorated line may not be suitable for high-pressure cleaning.
If hydro jetting is not appropriate, Felger Hart Residential may recommend cable cleaning, targeted sewer repair, or replacement based on the condition of the line.
Hydro jetting removes buildup and obstructions, but it does not repair cracks, separated joints, collapsed pipes, or other structural damage.
Hydro Jetting for Preventative Maintenance
Hydro jetting may also be used as preventative maintenance for sewer lines that regularly accumulate grease, roots, or other debris. The appropriate cleaning schedule depends on the line’s condition, previous problems, household use, and the type of buildup present.
Our plumbers can evaluate your sewer line and help determine whether periodic cleaning would be beneficial.
